Extra Opportunity for WTQA Workshop Providers
WTQA Instructor and Organisation Members now have the opportunity to reach a broader audience through their workshops and events, allowing them to actively support professional development in the tai chi community. This expanded reach is made possible by an initiative from AUSactive, Australia's peak body for exercise and active health.
AUSactive has formally invited the WTQA to become an Affiliated Education Provider, opening the door for WTQA member schools to have their events recognised as Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities for AUSactive-registered Tai Chi Professionals.
“Affiliated Education refers to courses, programs or events that may not be currently approved by AUSactive, but have received accreditation from other credible organisations or associations.” –AUSactive
Background: What is AUSactive?
AUSactive is the national industry association representing a wide range of exercise professionals, including personal trainers, gym and aqua instructors, Pilates and yoga teachers—and now, tai chi instructors, the newest addition to their professional registration categories.
With more than 15,000 professional members, 3,500 business members, and 4,000 student members, AUSactive holds significant influence and credibility, particularly in its advocacy work with the Australian Government and broader health sector.
AUSactive Accredited Tai Chi Professionals are required to complete Continuing Professional Development activities to maintain their registration. The WTQA strongly supports continuing education.
CPD hours can be earned through:
Courses offered by AUSactive-approved CPD providers, or
Events delivered by affiliated education providers such as the WTQA
Eligibility Criteria for WTQA Workshops for CPD Recognition
To be eligible for CPD recognition, WTQA member events must contain education within the scope of practice for AUSactive Registered Tai Chi Professionals. In brief, this means that event content is dominantly tai chi or qigong based and may be practical, theoretical or both. To be eligible for CPD approval via WTQA, member events must meet the following criteria:
Be focused on tai chi or qigong (no weapons training)
Be non-contact (no push hands or sparring)
Have a first aid officer with current certification present
Be run by an instructor or school holding current public liability and professional indemnity insurance
Clearly outline the learning aims and outcomes
Specify the intended participant level (e.g., beginners, intermediate, advanced)
Include a minimum of 2 hours of education/training time
Provide participants with a Certificate of Completion that includes the WTQA logo and the statement: "Endorsed by WTQA" (supplied upon approval)
How It Works in Practice
All WTQA member events, regardless of CPD eligibility, will continue to be listed on the WTQA Workshops page and promoted in the WTQA Newsletter.
Events that meet the CPD criteria will be highlighted with the note:
“This event is eligible for AUSactive CPDs.”
Participants seeking CPD points will submit their Certificate of Completion to AUSactive, who will apply CPD credits at the rate of 1 point per 2 hours of education time (minimum 2 hours required).
