Jamie McPherson

Committee Member

Jamie began learning and teaching Taijiquan and Qigong in 1995 under Grandmaster Gary Khor through the Australian Academy of Tai Chi. From the beginning, his goal was to explore and apply martial theory, intention, and Daoist philosophy to the Taiji he was learning. During his time at the Academy, he studied the Khor Tai Chi 108 Yang Style, a variety of Qigong forms, pushing hands, Feng Shui, and Chinese philosophy.

After a break from Taiji practice for several years due to various circumstances, Jamie has since returned to his roots. He is once again committed to refining his form and integrating martial intent and Daoist principles into his practice. He is also studying both Yang-style and Wudang sword forms, with a focus on the practical martial application of Dao and Jian swordsmanship.

Jamie balances his Taijiquan and weapons training with archery and boxing, all alongside his work in Child Protection. He is a dedicated barebow and traditional archer who has competed internationally, won numerous State Championships, holds the State 70m Barebow record, and was named the 2018 State All Rounder. He also coaches within the sport.

A passionate student of Taijiquan and its weapons forms, as well as Wudang San Feng Pai Daoist philosophy and practices, Jamie studies widely and has learned from many talented and wise masters. He lives in the small town of Strathalbyn in South Australia and participates in WTQA committee meetings via Zoom..
